Peru's BOPP film market experiencing healthy growth

Peru's BOPP film consumption has been growing at a healthy rate, increasing by as much as 19% in 2010 to 20,000 tonnes. This is mainly due to new capacity coming on stream at some of the country's converters such as Peruplast and Emusa and some smaller players buying old lines from larger competitors. Exports have been growing for some of Peru's converters. Demand is also increasing at a good rate during 2011.Three-quarters of the BOPP film used in Peru continues to be supplied by domestic producer OPP Films SA. The company's overall BOPP film production increased by around 14% to 48,000 tonnes in 2010 due to increased orders and improved line efficiencies, partly involving some rationalization in the range of film thicknesses supplied - e.g. no longer providing 13 and 14 micron films.
