The field of technology assessment (TA) assembles a wide scope of activities ranging from practical philosophy to sociological field work. TA thus characterizes an interdisciplinary context not a scientific discipline. An introduction to this context accordingly is a rather challenging undertaking. Armin Grunwald tries to meet this challenge with his new introduction to technology assessment. In the introductory preface he additionally takes up the task to present a 'reference document' of TA that accelerates the 'consolidation of TA's self-image'. For this he explicitly chooses a purely 'descriptive' although not purely 'neutral' point of view.
