Cost overruns that have plagued Alberta's oil sands in recent years have forced Petro-Canada to rethink plans for spending more than CUS5-bil (US3.5-bil) over the next decade. Delays announced Apr 29 while the company explores "other options" will affect the conversionof its Edmonton refinery to process up to 170,000 b/d of bitumen from northern Alberta and could spill over to its proposed 80,000 b/d Meadow Creek project, CEO Ron VBrenneman said.
