World tea production in 2008 was lower at 3749.8 M.Kgs compared to 3802.9 M.Kgs reported in the previous year, a decline of 53.1 M.Kgs. Production from the top four producing countries showed a mixed pattern. While Kenya (23.8 M.Kgs) and India (5.6 M.Kgs) reported a lower crop, China (20.0 M.Kgs) and Sri Lanka (13.1 M.Kgs) registered a higher crop. Among other minor producing countries viz. except Japan (0.9 M.Kgs) and Bangladesh (0.8 M.Kgs), all other producing countries reported lower production ranging from 23.0 M.Kgs in Turkey to 1.2 M.Kgs in Indonesia.
