South African municipal engineers launch into southern region

The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (Imesa), the oldest industry association serving the discipline of municipal engineers in the country, is lobbying for higher integration and collaboration between local governments in southern Africa. Over the past few years, Imesa has tabled the importance of not-only serving South African municipal engineers, but also to develop a network of support, knowledge sharing and service integration for the municipal engineering fraternity across the southern African development community (SADC). 12-12 Top honours for young water graduate Whelan Naidoo, a graduate civil engineer in SRK Consulting's water department, has won the Govan Mbeki Award for excelling as a top student in civil engineering in Gauteng, South Africa's. Gauteng MEC for Housing, Ntombi Mekgwe, presented the award for best scholarship student in the engineering and the built environment at a recent gala dinner held at Emperor's Palace in Kempton Park, Gauteng. Naidoo joined SRK in January this year. "We congratulate Whelan on this fine achievement so early in his career," said SRK managing director Peter Labrum.
