Rearguard action on sideguard test failures

An unexpected clampdown by Vehicle and Operator Service Agency (VOSA) test stations on truck sideguards has been relaxed, but only until next April. And workshops preparing trucks for annual test are being warned to ensure that sideguards satisfy the letter of the law. The problem has been highlighted by the UK's two big road transport trade association, the Freight Transport Association and Road Haulage Association, following complaints from their members that trucks which had passed several earlier annual tests were suddenly being failed on sideguards, though nothing had been altered.
