'Barry Ten' proposals may not be known for two years

Suggestions that the Heritage Lottery Fund could provide finance to convert the 'Welsh Collection' of ten ex-Barry locomotives into extinct classes is "premature". Sources close to the venture suggest that it could be at least another two years before the future of the engines is known. Although the story first broke 14 months ago following a consultant's report (RM December 1999), it is almost two years since The RM's South Wales correspondent was privy to the fact that secret discussions on the proposals had begun - and three years since The Railway Magazine exclusively disclosed the feasibility of such a plan (February 1998 issue, pages 34-37).
