Tanfield devastated after thieves steal non-ferrous fittings

NORTHUMBRIA police has launched an investigation after thieves broke into the Tanfield Railway's Sunniside base on April 28 and stole copper pipework and non-ferrous fittings belonging to under-restoration Andrew Barclay 0-6-0ST Harden (1015/1904). The break-in has been described by the police as "a targeted theft where thieves preyed on a charitable organisation during lockdown".The railway estimates the fittings will cost more than £20,000 to replace. "We're absolutely devastated by this callous theft. Our volunteers have put thousands of hours into the restoration of Horden" said Tanfield Railway Trust chairman, Derek Smith.
