Thieves steal part of heralded solar road

Less than a week after China unveiled a new solar highway with much celebration, thieves made off with a chunk of it. Workers on the project discovered that thieves had taken a 5.9-foot section of the 0.62-mile road in the eastern city of Jinan. The workers suspect the thieves will try to replicate the technology. The materials themselves weren't especially valuable. The road, which consists of solar panels beneath a layer of transparent concrete, can generate enough energy each year to power roughly 800 homes.
