The Building Control (Amendment) Regulations were published by the Irish minister for the environment in 2013, and will take effect on 1 March 2014. The new rules follow a series of high-profile failures that came to a head with the controversy surrounding the Priory Hall Development. Priory Hall was major complex of apartments developed by Tom McFeely who 'completed' the 189-unit complex in 2007. Unfortunately defects became apparent almost immediately, and when the car park flooded residents discovered their cars floating out of the building.
