In 1907 Harland & Wolff began the rebuilding of their Queen's Island, Belfas yard, located on the river Lagan. Three slipways were rebuilt into a double slip under a huge gantry, which was designed by Sir William Arrol, who had designed and constructed the Forth Railway Bridge. The 840ft by 240ft gantry became a Belfast landmark for many years, and underneath it were the two slipways.
