For visually impaired lift passengers, there are standards like the E N81 -70 that enforce means to help them with the usage of the lift. However, there is still potential for improvement and additional aid could be implemented to facilitate the usage of the lift to such passengers. Furthermore, the EN81-70 is not applicable to all elevators, but mainly to publicly accessible elevators and therefore only a minority of the elevators in the world. In addition, there are some requirements written in that standard, which are subject to negotiation with the customer and do not always need to be implemented. This leaves the visually impaired lift passenger confronted with many elevators that are not easy to use for them.
