THE WELSH Highland Heritage Railway at Porthmadog has let a contract with the Festiniog Railway Company for the construction of a replica Pickering Brake Composite Coach. The original Welsh Highland Railway had two Brake Composite coaches that were built for the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway in 1907 by R Y Pickering of Wishaw, Lanarkshire. One or other of these coaches appears in almost every photograph of an original Welsh Highland train, but sadly they were auctioned off and lost when the original railway was scrapped in 1942.
