The immune response is controlled by regulatory T cells, known as Tregs. Patients with multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases often present with Treg-associated dysfunctions, and researchers have been able to halt autoimmune disease development in several experimental models by inducing the production of functional Trees.rnAda Yeste et al. (pp. 11270-11275) encouraged dendritic cells-the immune cells that present antigens to other cells-to generate Tregs by coating tiny gold nanoparticles with small molecules and antigens known to encourage Treg production.
