Orange Creek becomes Orange Lake

Our town is covered with snow now, so you can't tell that we were shoulder deep in liquid water in September due to Hurricane Ivan. As Ivan swirled its way northeast, we watched the weather news and felt deeply for the folks in the islands and Gulf Coast whose homes and businesses were being blown and washed away. Hurricanes don't usually make it to our Middle Atlantic states. But weather maps showed a huge, ominous cloud of heavy rains heading toward the Appalachian Mountains and us. On Thursday night, September 16, it reached us and started pouring long and steadily. It rained all day Friday.
