Introduction to the special section on retailing research: Things change, things stay the same

The 8th SMA Retailing Research Symposium took place in San Antonio (TX), November 2, as the opening event of the 2005 SMA Annual Conference. The Symposium was exciting, convivial and challenging. The program included fourteen papers selected from over 30 submissions from the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Brazil and Korea. Peter McGoldrick (Holder of the Tesco Retailing Chair at Manchester School of Management) was the guest speaker. He presented a lively and fascinating picture of the evolution and challenges of the retail industry in the UK, entitled "Superstores, Superstores, Supernovas."
