While not as revolutionary as some of the transformable advanced hullform concepts currently being studied, a new vessel design developed by Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands is claimed to offer a number of benefits for fast craft. In the 'Axe Bow' concept, the hull's specially shaped bow has an almost straight stem that maximises waterline length, thereby preventing the bow from coming out of the water when the vessel is travelling at speed. Slamming is said to be reduced, as are downtime and fuel consumption, and seakeeping is dramatically enhanced.
