When Societe de Transport de Laval (STL), the public transport system for the city of Laval in Quebec in Canada needed an effective way to improve its bus network performance, it chose a system which allows buses to request green lights as they approach intersections - and are allocated priority based not only on their position relative to the timetable, but also the number of passengers they are carrying.
