On November 18, 2015, the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) of the Department of Labor (DOL) proposed a rule to increase the administrative efficiency of workers' compensation claims of energy employees via an amendment to the Energy Employees Occupational Illinois Compensation Program Act. This act has not been amended since 2006. The proposed rule would modify existing regulations to describe the increased involvement of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health when the Final Adjudication Branch considers objections to radiation-dose reconstruction reports, transfer the processing and payment of medical bills to the same system used by other OWCP programs, increase the transparency of the process that covers certain excluded medical service providers, and set forth a new process for authorizing in-home health care. OWCP Director Leonard Howie said that he hopes these changes will enable the payment of workers' compensation for energy employees to occur "with greater speed, efficiency, and transparency."
