GNR(Ⅰ) remembered 60 years on

The Transport Museum Society of Ireland marked the 60th anniversary of the demise of the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) with a commemorative run aboard its 70-year-old preserved GNR AEC Regent Ⅲ. The GNR was disbanded at midnight on 30 September 1958 when its assets were split either side of the Irish border between the state-owned Coras Iompair Eireann and Ulster Transport Authority. The TMSI took Park Royal-bodied Regent 438 (ZH 3937), new in July 1948 and owned by CIE post-1958, on a daytime journey on 30 September that recreated the 11.50 Sunday service from Eden Quay, Dublin to Portmarnock Strand and then onwards to the Howth East Pier terminus before returning to the museum premises in Howth.
