Feilden Clegg Bradley's Woodland Trust headquarters in Grantham, one of its most memorable projects of the past year, is an outstanding example of affordable sustainability. The predominately timber project, which echoes the core values of the Woodland Trust, saves the equivalent of 20 years of carbon dioxide generation compared to a conventional steel/concrete frame, and incorporates a sweeping array of innovations in materials use and environmental design. But then this practice has consistently shown itself to be at the forefront of current green thinking, bringing a strong environmental agenda to all of its projects, whether or not it is written into the client's brief. ;It's a little known, but telling, fact that there are more than twice as many women working within the manual trades on the Olympic park as the national average for construction projects. The ODA has carried out extensive outreach projects, mentoring, work placements and training opportunities to get more women working on the project - and in the sector as a whole - as part of a gender equality programme that covers its own workforce and those of its contractors. The ODA itself has led from the front when it comes to diversity: 43% of its own 250-strong workforce is female, with eight women in director or head of function roles.
