A series of PET-PTT copolyesters were synthesized from PTA, EG,1,3-PDO by the direct esterification followed by polycondensation. The thermal stability of PET-PTT copolyester was investigated by TGA. It was found that the decomposition temperatures of these copolyesters decreased as the PTT unit increased under both nitrogen and air atmosphere, for the PET-riched PET-PTT copolyester its decomposition rate seemed slowed as the PTT units increased. The PET-PTT copolyesters could be spun into fibers, these fibers have usable mechanical properties. The incorporation of PTT unit into PET chains could improve the elastic recovery behavior of PET-PTT fibers. The dyeing performance of PET-PTT fibers was much better than that of PET fiber duo to the addition of PTT unit.
