When produced using renewable energy,hydrogen can be used as a zero-carbon energy source in conjunction with vehicular fuel cells,producing only water as a byproduct.However,its widespread implementation is inhibited by challenges encountered during its storage and transport.This is alleviated by using hydrogen carriers such as ammonia which offers a high gravimetric(17.6 wt%)and volumetric(108 kg m-3 at 25 oC,1.0 MPa)hydrogen density,and can be stored and transported with ease.In this study,we have proposed on-site energy efficient hydrogen production via ammonia thermolysis at high temperatures over a resistively heated Ni-coated tungsten(Ni/W)filament.
