Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthetic polymer receptors capable ofspecific molecular recognition,which are prepared by co-polymerization of functionalmonomer(s),co-monomer(s) and cross-linker(s) in the presence of target molecule andfollowed by removal of target molecule.1 Recently,we have developed a new strategy forpreparing multifunctional MIPs,so-called post-imprinting modifications (PIMs).2 PIM wasdesigned as a site-directed chemical modification of functional monomer residues within animprinted cavity.We have designed and synthesized a functional monomer for PIM,4-[2-(Nmethacrylamido)ethylaminomethyl] benzoic acid (MABA),comprising of a benzoic acidmoiety for interacting with target molecule and a secondary amino group as a PIM site,locatedbetween polymerizable methacryl group and benzoic acid.We have demonstrated fluorescentsignaling MIPs,which were prepared with MABA and site-specific post-introduction offluorescent reporter molecule into the secondary amino group on MABA.
