摘要

Aquaculture is important in coastal communities by contributing to food security, enhancing economic development, and by providing employment opportunities. In the Mediterranean and Black Sea, while the production from capture fisheries reached a plateau in the 1990's andin 2011 ninety-five percent of stocks were estimated to be fully or overexploited, aquaculture has continued to growand significantly contributed to the total fisheries production,with an even increasing role to play in the near future.
