A Corpus-based Study of Translator's Style - A Case Study of Four English Translations of Water Margin

The Water Margin is the first novel written in vernacular in Chinese history, which is also a work with full epic features in Chinese literature. There are many translation versions of Water Margin, but it is not difficult to find that the depth and breadth of current English translation studies have great difference. The current research on English translation is limited to the level of detail evaluation, which has not formed a system and is scattered. Based on this background, the author thinks that the English translation of Water Margin should be studied in a more all-around angle through multiple translation versions. At the same time, translation comparison and commentary can only be based on specific research data In order to obtain more objective, recommendable and evident concluslons^{[1]. Therefore, the study of four English versions of “Water Margin” based on corpus (i.e. Pearl Sai-Sai' Version, Jackson-Jackson's Version, Shaboli-Sha's Version, Dent Yang-Yang's Version) has great significance and helps to open up a new way for the translation of Water Margin. This thesis discusses the translator's style of corpus based on the four English versions of Water Margin.}
