The convergence process that started Bologna, had as one of its most important goals, adapting the content of university curricula to social demands, improving quality and competitiveness through, inter alia, lifelong learning and use of new teaching methods, where practical teaching stands out. The realization of this type of practices in private business supposes a great effort to the student. However the location of the offices of the company is often quite distant from the location of the university which translates in a greater investment of time for students who want to undertake such practices. The approach of a "distance internship" has been a challenge for the tutoring of the same so that the realization of these were authentic learning while their results were profitable for the company. The answer to this challenge represents an innovative solution for teaching and learning work methods related to the development of CAD/CAM software which is otherwise part of the company's business. This article explains and develops the process of creation of innovative practices in the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales (ETSIN) and what were the solutions to various work settings and their impact on learning.
