Esophageal strictures most commonly are a result of esophagitis after gastroesophageal reflux during an anesthetic event.1-4 These strictures usually result from scar tissue formation after circumferential mucosal ulceration and erosion, resulting insubsequent lurninal compromise. Factors previously implicated in BES may include mechanical injuries,5-6 iatrogenic trauma during surgery or endoscopy, congenital stenosis,7 and chemical injuries (especially documented in cats).
