In our contribution we discuss the importance of the visual thinking development and the visual competence of students in mathematics education. The bearing of use of the visual representations in mathematics teacher education is also discussed with an emphasis on the education in the elementary mathematical analysis. We present how to create modifications of the Dirichlet function with interesting properties, too.
