Membrane water filtration is a growing market, serving critical needs to provide clean drinking water world wide. Hollow fiber membranes are a major part of this market due to advantages in surface area per unit volume. PVDF hollow fiber membranes are well used in water filtration, including MBR systems, desalination pretreatment, and surface water treatment. These membranes are well known for excellent durability and chemical resistance, particularly to chlorine oxidants. PVDF hollow fiber membranes are made by two types of phase inversion processes: non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) or thermally induced phase separation, TIPS.
