A Prospective Study of Enteric Fever in Pediatrics Age Group

Background: Typhoid fever has remained one of the important public health problems in our country. It is surprising that a disease, which could be managed in the past with ease, safety and low cost, is posing a serious therapeutic challenge today. With the development of resistance to conventionally used drugs, newer drugs like 3rd generation cephalosporins ,quinolones and Macrolides are the mainstay of treatment. Objective: This study evaluated the signs and symptoms to come to a bedside diagnosis of typhoid fever and estimated the frequency of sensitivity of Salmonella typhi to commonly used antibiotics.
