Comparison of seed longevity between wild and cultivated populations of Dlplotaxls ibicensis

Seed longevity is a relevant character to industry and ecology knowledge. Potential differences between wild and cultivated populations would be expected (Walters 2004). Seed longevity of populations of Diplotaxis ibicensis, an endemic crop wild relative, from both types of provenances were evaluated under accelerated ageing conditions in order to determine if there is actually a distinct behavior. In addition, a seed anatomical assessment was conducted in order to characterize the protein reserves in the embryo and verify a probable correlation with longevity.
