The effects of slab-beam interaction on the seismic response of dual frame structures constituted by moment resisting frames (MRFs) and eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) with short links are examined. For the purpose of this study, nonlinear time history analyses over a spatial six storey structure with four perimeter dual eccentrically braced frame have been performed under a suite of semi-artificial accelerograms of Vrancea type. The structure is situated in Bucharest and was designed according to the new Romanian seismic design code (P100-1/2013) and EN 1993-1-1, in compliance with capacity design principles. The structure was modelled in two cases: with and without concrete slab. The results of the analyses show that the dissipative zones of the structure are influenced by the existence of the slab. Interstorey drifts and the rotations demands of the links are higher in the structure with steel beams than in the structure with composite beams.
