摘要

This research aims to study the feasibility of the plasma MIG welding process to join the aluminum and steel dissimilarly. It is well known that the use of arc welding to join the aluminum and steel caused the formation of brittle intermetallic compound (IMC) at interface of aluminum and steel. In our previous study;;it was confirmed that the use of plasma MIG welding process can reduce the droplet temperature up to 500 K in comparison with the conventional MIG welding[1]. Since the formation of IMC is closely related to a heat input into the base metal;;the droplet temperature reduction in plasma MIG welding process was utilized to reduce the total heat input into base metal;;thus controls the IMC thickness. In this study;;the IMC formation at the Al/Steel interface was evaluated and the effect of temperature reduction mechanism in plasma MIG welding was also discussed.
