A method is proposed for the calculation of local flexibilities of critical regions of structures, based on solid physical principles, using a measured flexibility matrix obtained from static or dynamic tests. Since damage can be defined as a measurable incremental increase in local flexibility, this method is capable of level 3 damage identification. The possibility of applying this method for identifying damage on hyperstatic beam structures is illustrated with a simulation example involving multiple damage locations and scenarios.
