Towards Ensuring a Successful E-learning Implementation: A Proposed Model for Enhancing First Year Students' Participation

In recent decade, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a vital tool that remodels business and teaching/learning landscape in higher education (HE) globally to their pedagogy. The expansion of ICT and other educational technologies over the years have affected higher education institutions (HEIs) to move from traditional ways of teaching to modern ways of teaching using online platform known as e-learning. In 21st century, the widespread of these technologies and various electronic devices, provide students with vast access to electronic content, sharing of data and manipulation of content beyond border of institutions, geographic location and time constraint. As a result, over the past years e-learning has become a priority in many high education institutions globally and in South Africa in particular. Hence this paper reviews studies of e-learning implementation and provides insight into some critical success factors to consider and proposed a model for enhancing first year students' participation in the use of e-learning.
