BROWSING THE SCALES - THE CARTO-CHANGE PROJECT

The CARTO-CHANGE project addresses the harmonization of existing land cover data (Advanced CORINE LC, CORINE LC and GLOBCOVER) and thereby two aspects: Firstly, the cartographic and statistical comparison of land cover information across different scales and resolutions, and secondly the timely identification of candidate land cover changes by using land cover and land use information derived from coarser resolution, but more frequent satellite data. The final objective of the service is a land cover change analysis, namely deriving 'candidate' land cover changes based on the harmonized land cover data sets. Major emphasis is put on the idea to compare LC data from frequently available EO data with medium resolution (GLOBCOVER) to finer resolved LC data that are less frequently produced (CORINE LC). To apply the methodology also to regional scale data, an approach is developed for the comparison of CORINE LC data and advanced CORINE LC data with higher geometric precision and thematic accuracy.
