This paper presents new feature models of machining operation and machined shapes for end milling as one kind of compound cutting edge machining. For single cutting edge machining, the feature models and the relationship between both have been developed (Tanaka and Kishinami 1998). However, a machining operation is usually performed with a compound cutting edge consisting of a peripheral, corner and end cutting edge. In this report, we analyze such machining operations with form-shaping functions, and propose a new feature model of machining operation constructed from the feature model for a single cutting edge and a new feature model constructed from the feature model of machined shapes for a single cutting edge. Furthermore, to generate the portion of the product surface which is located in front of the feed direction of a machining operation, we propose a sequence of the feature model of the machining operation with a dwell cutting operation.
