Daylight Prediction Method in Atria Buildings: Effect on the Daylight Factor of Geometric and Atrium Surface Characteristics
Fundamentals aspects of atrium design are the orientation to the sun, the shape of the atrium, the transmittance of the atrium roof, the reflectivities of the atrium surfaces, the penetration of daylight into adjoining spaces. In commercial, office and institutional buildings the atrium become a focal point connecting the adjoining spaces with the outside world and giving, in terms of daylight contribution, a significant help to the global performance of the building, both in terms of energy savings and comfort of the occupants. The actual research program provides the analysis of the characteristics of an atrium building that is the geometry of the atrium, its material properties, the fenestration system, the design of the atrium roof with the aim to reach a relationship between all these parameters. The present paper focuses the attention on the effect on the Daylight Factor of different shape of the atrium and of several atrium surfaces, with different reflectance values.
