Integrated management of wilt complex of brinjal in Orissa

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) suffers from severe wilt complex diseases due to joint involvement of pathogens like Pseudomonas solamacearum, Fursarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersicae and Sclerotium rolfsii in different parts of Orissa. A two year filedtrial was conducted in a sick plot to devise measures against the disease. The best control of the disease was achieved by spraying the foliage and basal portions of plants with Plantomycin (0.2%) + Bavistin (0.15%). The treatment had mean PDI of 4.92, fruit yield of 50 t/ha and cost-benefit ratio of 1:4.2. It was followed by spraying with Plantomycin (0.2%) alone, having mean PDI of 5.49, fruit yield of 27.5 t/ha and cost-benefit ratio of 1:3.22. However, wet seed treatment, seedling dip and soil drenching with Turmeric (1.0%) + Asafoetide (0.1%) solution resulted in the highest cost-benefit ratio of 1:6.5 with fruit yield of 333 t/ha and PDI of 9.2.
