Selected treatment strategies for emotional and behavioural disorders in children and adolescents

This review looks at selected effective treatment strategies for emotional and behavioural disorders in children and adolescents. Theories of mentalization, intentionality, attachment, the consolidated framework for implementation research, and reasoned action are used as explanatory tools to conceptually situate these disorders. This descriptive analysis, gleaned from secondary sources, focuses on four major types of intervention strategies namely, cognitive behaviour therapy, family-based programs, psychopharmacological therapy, and multisystemic therapy. The review concludes that all four strategies, customized to suit specific cases, are relevant to effectively treat emotional and behavioural disorders in children and adolescents.
