An analysis method for determining S-[2-(Diisopropylamino)ethyl] hydrogen methylphosphonothioate (EA 2192, CAS # 73207-98-4), a hydrolysis product of toxic organophosphorus (OP) nerve agent O-Ethyl-S-[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl] methylphosphonothiolate (VX, CAS # 50782-69-9), in minipig plasma and urine has been developed and validated using high performance liquid chromatography with an Agilent 6410 triple quadrapole mass spectrometer (LC/MS/MS). Studies are being conducted to determine the toxic effects of VX exposure at low levels using animal models. Determining the internal dose an animal has been exposed to is difficult due to rapid hydrolysis of VX. The method described here has the required selectivity that will allow it to be applied to several different animal models. The dose-metric information obtained utilizing this method will help to model the pathways of elimination of VX in the body.
