A THREE-FOLD VACCINATION STRATEGY AIMING TO CONTROL ACTINOBACILLOSIS IN A FATTENING HERD

The incidence of pleuritis recorded at Swedish abattoirs decreased from 8% in 1988 to 5% in 2002 due to a more prompt implementation of age segregated rearing systems (1). Presently, registrations for pleuritis at slaughter are increasing and acute outbreaks of actinobacillosis are becoming more frequent (2). Vaccination against actinobacillosis may be a way to reduce manifestations of disease. This study investigated whether 3 vaccinations would improve health in a fattening herd employing all in-all out production since two vaccinations in this herd had not rendered any improvement.
