Dynamic Molecular Tweezers with Tetrathiafulvalene Arms: Synthesis, Conformational Behavior, and Molecular Recognition Properties

A family of flexible molecular tweezers containing two tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) groups connected to an aromatic scaffold was prepared from bis-cyanoethyl-protected TTF thiolates and brominated aromatic derivatives. To achieve high solubility in non-polar organic solvents, different solubilizing groups were tested with 3,5-di-tert-butylbenzyl group showing the best results.
