The John H. Sandground Helminthological Collection at Harvard University's Museum of Comparative Zoology

The Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) at Harvard University includes a historically significant collection of parasitic helminths developed by John H. Sandground during the early 1900's. Besides his work as a laboratory medical parasitologist, Sandground served as a consulting parasitologist for several major expeditions in various parts of the world, from which he deposited specimens in his collection at MCZ. Taxonomically, the Sandground Collection is primarily oriented toward nematodes, with significant holdings of cestodes and trematodes as well. Much of Sandground's research was on parasites of humans, and many of his specimens were taken from documented rare human cases. However, several hundred lots are from non-human hosts from around the world, including hosts that have been studied only rarely for parasites. All are well preserved, have been carefully curated since their collection, and are available for study, along with files of Sandground's published works.
