Medical Need and Quality of Life in Patients with Hemophilia A

Quality of life studies are an important and well accepted aspect in evaluating the health status of population groups. In times of financial constraints in the health care system, quality of life studies may even become one of the factors to influence priority setting in a health care system based on the aspect of solidarity.Our quality of life study is the first part of a project divided into two parts, financed by the DFG (DFG; Na 184/6-1) about medical need and the option to use medical need as a basis for allocation in the German health care system.As a clinical example, we have chosen hemophilia A as a model disease because it is a very costly chronic disease with a successful prospect for treatment and thus an excellent example for the question of priority setting.
