Efficacy of Draxxin~R (tulathromycin injectable solution) for the treatment of Swine Respiratory Disease associated with experimentally-Induced Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae In pigs

It has been previously demonstrated that pneumonia in pigs due to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae responds to treatment with the novel triamilide antimicrobial tulathromycin (Draxxin~R Injectable Solution). Specifically, in a challenge model study conductedin the United Kingdom, a single intramuscular (IM) dose of tulathromycin was shown to be an effective treatment for experimentally-induced pneumonia associated with Mhyopneumoniae strain Ml07. Compared with untreated control pigs, tulathromycin-treated pigs had significantly reduced coughing, mean lung lesion score, and proportional lung weight, and showed significantly improved weight gain. * The two studies reported on here follow a series of studies that were undertaken to further investigate the efficacy of treatment with a single IM dose of tulathromycin in a respiratory disease associated with an experimentally-induced M hyopneumoniae pneumonia in pigs in the US.
