Kyushu Electric has strategically implemented the outage-free maintenance of high voltage distribution lines by high-tech live line work robots such as Phase I and Phase II. Further research is now being made into a fully-automatic distribution work robot. Several fundamental technological issues essential for this ultimate robot are now being developed. This paper focuses on a technological development enabling the robot to autonomously judge whether the work task has been correctly completed. Various robotic processes for judging the completion of tasks in circuit opening/reclosing work, such as wire peeling, sleeve compression and sleeve cover installation, are described herein.
