We understand aesthetics as an operational concept. Inside the rich history of aesthetics we propose to work with the guideline of a 'fact-finding' aesthetics which had been developed among others by the artist Francois Molnar, former Secretary General of the International Association of Experimental Aesthetics. The work of art should be defined "as something which belongs to the spatio-temporal world". The picture - or in our terms the aesthetically designed PV module -^s"is an extensive secondary light source, capable of realising in the spectator a sympathetic response (aesthetic). With this definition it is possible to study the picture (i.e. solar module) on three levels: 1. As a physical object; a source of radiating energy, measurable by a variety of physical procedures. 2. As an object perceived by a specific recipient: man. 3. As an object appreciated aesthetically by the same human receiver embedded in a socio-cultural environment."
