When you think of emergencies, the typical HBC (hit-by-car) patient or some other traumatic or life-threatening event is sure to come to mind. Dentistry is probably the last thing you would expect to consider in emergencies. Even though dental injuries are not life-threatening in nature, some of them do need to be treated sooner rather than later to ensure success; in other cases, the patient must be stabilized and maintained until full treatment or referral to a specialist is possible, and this canmean taking steps to help relieve the patient's discomfort. At some point in your career, you will come across a traumatic facial injury that you, as a technician, will need to be able to assist in treating. Traumatic facial injuries can be broken into 3groups: soft tissue, tooth injuries and jaw fractures.
